You can now write blog posts directly on your actor website: a listing page, individual posts at their own addresses, images, and everything on your own domain.
Why on your own site rather than a platform
Three reasons, in order of how much they matter.
It is yours. A platform can change its terms, throttle your reach, or close. Writing that lives on your domain is writing you still have in ten years.
It keeps the visitor. Somebody reading your piece is two clicks from your reel rather than two clicks from a recommendation feed full of other people.
It builds the site rather than somebody else's. Search engines assess a site partly on whether there is substance on it. A site with fifteen thoughtful posts is a more substantial site than one with nine static pages, and that helps every page on it, including the one about you. More on that in SEO for actor websites.
The honest caveat
All of that assumes you write more than three posts. An abandoned blog is a visible signal that the site is not maintained, and it is worse than not having one.
Before switching this on, decide on a realistic rate. One post a month is ambitious for a working actor. One a quarter is achievable and entirely respectable. Four good posts a year for three years is a body of work.
What to write about
The test is whether you know something the reader does not. Things that pass:
- A specific job, in detail. How the audition went, what the process was, what you would do differently.
- Craft, from your actual practice rather than from a book.
- Something adjacent you genuinely know: a market, a technique, a piece of equipment, a city.
- A production diary while you are in something.
Things that fail: general career advice from somebody at the same stage as the reader, and posts about how you have not posted in a while.
Practical details
Posts use the rich text editor, get their own address, and can carry their own search title and description. If you already write on another platform, connect it instead using the blog integrations rather than writing in two places.
